This past weekend we saw the launch in the senior woman’s training program for the 2014/2015 Futsal Season.
This is the first year Futsal Club Toronto has incorporated a senior woman’s futsal team with the prospect of taking the program to new heights. Currently the 5th Woman Futsal World Tournament is set to take place Dec 10-15th in Hatillo, Costa Rica. Brazil, has been crowned champions in the past 4 editions of this tournament.
Canada has a very talented pool of female soccer players and a very successful Canadian National Team program where Canada currently is ranked 8th in the world; and 2nd in the CONCACAF Region. It would be fantastic to see a Canadian Woman’s Futsal Team join the likes of Brazil, Japan, Portugal, Russia, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Spain in a future edition of the Woman’s Futsal World Tournament.
The senior woman’s team is currently competing in the DHSL Woman’s league www.dhsltoronto.com and look to attend a minimum of two futsal tournaments a year.
We had the opportunity to watch Costa Rica vs Guatemala in Guatemala City prior to the CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship games taking place at the Polideportivo Stadium. There definitely needs to be focus drawn on the woman’s futsal game; while Canada has yet to host a Woman’s Canadian National Futsal Camp, Costa Rica and Guatemala have a full National Futsal Team Program and travel in international friendlies and compete on the world stage.
