SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol) announced on Wednesday an ambitious project to promote futsal and beach soccer in the Dominican Republic.
The main objective of the plan is to create professional futsal and beach soccer leagues and for this to take place they have made a strategic alliance with two renowned international coaches.
The announcement was made by the engineer himself Osiris Guzmán Delgado, president of Fedofutbol, as part of a press conference to announce Head Coach Roy Blanche, from Canada and Carlos Boccicardi, of Argentine nationality, who will take on the futsal and beach soccer project. The event took place at Fedofutbol; grounds of the Dominican Republic Futbol Federation.
Blanche is an accredited worldly coach who has been a technical director in various different countries including Kuwait and his native Canada.
He will be responsible for the development project in futsal and beach soccer starting from the youth age groups.
Boccicardi will be involved in working with the U-17 Women’s National Team that will participate in the Youth Olympic Games that will take place in Argentina in 2018.
Guzmán Delgado stressed that this alliance seeks to strengthen the futsal and beach soccer development programs in the Dominican Republic. “We are facing an unprecedented project and we hope to finish in a short period of time with the creation of a new Professional League (futsal),” he commented, with optimism, noting that he is pleased that institutions such as FIFA and CONCACAF have their sights set on what has been taking place with the development of Dominican soccer.
Head Coach Blanche spoke of the potential that the country has in these two FIFA sports, after making observations of the existing talent in his 15 days in the Dominican. “I am very excited, and very happy to come here to share my experiences, both from Canada and Kuwait,” said the former futsal player.
Also in attendance were Félix Ledesma, Executive Director of the Dominican Football League, as well as Rolando Miranda, General Secretary of Fedofutbol.
