Futsal Club Toronto crowned Canadian National Futsal Champions!
This weekend the Canada Soccer Association inaugurated the 1st Canadian National Futsal Championships in Laval, Qc. A historical weekend for futsal across Canada and another milestone claimed by the Men’s team for 2015.
The weekend launched with a press conference where the presidents of the Ontario Soccer Association, Quebec Soccer Federation and Joe Guest, Canada Soccer Association’s Deputy General Secretary welcomed the media, technical staff & participants.
Futsal Club Toronto and Albiceleste FC were both respective provincial champions and played a two games series over the weekend amongst a crowd of fans eager to see both of these highly recognized teams compete; amongst the fans were FCT hooligans known as the, “6ixth Attacker” who drummed their way through both halves of both games, and dignitaries. Futsal Club Toronto lead the way after match one 7-5 on aggregate and capitalized game two with a score of 6-2.
“The establishment of this new Futsal Canadian Championship is a great step forward for Canada Soccer in our efforts to grow and govern the game at all levels,” said Canada Soccer President Victor Montagliani. “Working closely with our Member Associations, it will provide another avenue for our beautiful game to reach a greater number of participants and serve as foundation for what could become Canada’s Futsal players’ pathway towards representing our country on the international stage.
The Men’s team has reached many milestones this year as they were crowned 2015 Peel Hilton Futsal League Champions, OSA Provincial Futsal League Champions and ultimately 2015 Canadian National Futsal Champions. Its been quite a year for the club in terms of international competition with their presence at the 2014 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship and the 2015 Intercontinental Futsal Championship in Brazil.
The team look forward to their 2015/2016 league season in the Peel Halton Futsal League; Canada’s only standards based futsal league. The team returns to their home court, Canaan Sportsplex, October 30th for preseason training.
