Futsal coaching education- a key to success

Courtesy of Peel Halton Soccer Association

Futsal is trending in Peel Halton Soccer Association (PHSA).  The Association just experienced a huge growth in the playing of this fast paced and fun filled game that enhances skill and technique. Their youth league has doubled in the number of teams registered from last year.  The men’s division is about to launch, and perhaps a women’s division as well.

One of the key components of the growth of the sport is coaching education.  PHSA is extremely fortunate and pleased to have in their district an AFC Elite FIFA Futsal instructor, Shahab Sofalmanesh, who has delivered numerous Futsal coaching clinics through Asia, over the last 10 years.  This past weekend, 29th and 30th October, PHSA hosted a Level 1 Futsal Coaching clinic, at Canlan Sportsplex, led by Shahab and with participation from Roy Blanche, FCT Technical Director.

The course was held over 16 hours and featured theory and practical sessions.  The clinic was extremely well received by the coaches in attendance, and it was great to see coaches from different clubs from across the GTA and as far away as London.

Comments from the coaches such as, “this course was my first introduction to Futsal. It opened up my eyes to a lot more things about this game and helped me grow as a coach so I can help kids in the future.”; “looking to incorporate more of the benefits of Futsal into my practices in terms of quick thinking, better foot skills, and high intensity that the game demands”; “we are going to take this model and apply it to our training sessions.”, are a clear indication that these sessions are extremely valuable on the development of the sport.  In the end coaches were already asking for next session…

Futsal referee education- another key to success

On this same weekend an OSA level 1 referee futsal course was hosted by Waterloo Minor Soccer.  There were 12 participants, and it was great to see the great majority were all under the age of 20.  We wish the soon to be futsal referees great success in their futsal careers.
