Futsal Club Toronto is on the international futsal stage once again with one of its very own coaches but this time in Lima, Peru where the stage is set for the 2017 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Futsal and Adolfo Mella is at the helm of Santiago Wanderers club team.
Coach Adolfo forms part of the technical staff for Santiago Wanderers (Chile) they are set to play their first match May 22nd vs host nation Peru’s Primero de Mayo 20:00 (local time).
Coach Adolfo was instrumental in FCT success in the 2017 Barcelona Futsal Tour, U14 Peel Halton Futsal League Championships, 2017 Ontario Soccer Provincial Futsal Championships which lead to a spot at this years Canadian National Futsal Championships. He is no stranger to the Canadian Futsal seen as he formed part of the Canadian National Team back in 2008 when Canada participated in the IV Grand Prix of Futsal in Brasil; Adolfo made 6 appearances for Canada scoring 2 goals in the tournament. Adolfo’s soccer and futsal career dates back to 1997,where he had a tenure with Montreal Impact during their 1997-1998 winter indoor season appearing in 26 matches and recorded 21 goals. In 1998-1999 winter season he signed with Milwaukee Wave and back in 98′ he also signed with the Toronto Lynx in the USL A-League. Adolfo played alongside Canadian National Futsal Team member Roy Blanche and were team mates with Deportivo Pereira Futsal a founding Canadian Futsal Team which competed in the Panamerican Futsal Cup in Peru and was home to many of our successful Toronto based futsal players.
Santiago Wanderers, from Chile, has qualified as one of 12 participating teams along with the likes of South American club teams S.S Bocca (Ecuador), Old Christians (Uruguay), Cerro Porteño (Parguay), Bello Real Antioquia (Col), Nantes (Bolivia), Afemec (Paraguay), Carlos Barboza (Brasil), Kimberley Ac (Argentina), Panta Walon (Peru), Caracas Fc (Venezuela), and Primero De Mayo (Peru).
The games will take place at the Polideportivo 1 de la Villa Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA) in Lima.
