HUGO RODRIGUES

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Hugo, born on October 6, 1987, is a Portuguese football manager currently serving as the Technical Director of FC Toronto. Hailing from Portugal, Hugo had a background in both futsal and football, having played professionally in both sports. This unique experience has granted him a comprehensive understanding of the game.

In 2014, Hugo relocated to Canada and completed his basic Canadian coaching courses. He began his coaching journey at Futsal Club Toronto, where he has worked with teams across all levels, ranging from U4 to the senior men's teams. This extensive range of coaching experience has provided Hugo with a diverse perspective on the quality of players within the club. 

Furthermore, Hugo actively participates as a player and captains both the men's futsal and football teams. His dedication to the game extends beyond coaching, as he continues to showcase his skills on the field. Hugo's prowess in futsal was recognized when he was selected to represent Canada in the Professional Futsal League All-Star showcase in 2016. During this event, he had the privilege of playing alongside renowned futsal players such as Falcao and Ricardinho, who are widely regarded as some of the best in the history of the sport. 

In 2017, Hugo had the opportunity to work as an assistant coach to Roy Blanche for the Dominican Republic Futsal National Team. This experience provided him with valuable insights and further enriched his coaching abilities. Presently, Hugo serves as the High-Performance Program Director at Futsal Club Toronto, overseeing the development of elite category players as part of the Hollycrest Middle School High Performers Program. Additionally, he takes charge of the REP teams in the evenings, focusing on grassroots development at the REP levels. 

Apart from his role at Futsal Club Toronto, Hugo also serves as a Soccer Development Instructor at Toronto Football Club, contributing to the growth and skill enhancement of aspiring football players. Hugo's coaching philosophy embraces a holistic approach to player relationships, emphasizing both results-driven performance and player development. He firmly believes in integrating futsal principles to aid players in honing their football skills, recognizing the significant impact futsal can have on overall player development.
