QUANTE ABBOT HILL SMITH (COACH Q)

GRASSROOTS COACH

For Quante Abbot Hill Smith, now commonly known as "Coach Q," futsal and soccer have been lifelong passions, whether playing, coaching, or simply enjoying the games.

Quante’s journey in soccer began in the Spanish league and the provincial team at an early age. At 14, he was offered an opportunity to play in France for Nice. By the age of 16, Quante transitioned to competing with men in the CSL, which accelerated his development and honed his skills.

This progress led Quante to represent Canada’s U17 National Team, and shortly after, he joined Jamaica’s U17 National Team. With Jamaica, he participated in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, contributing to the team’s successful qualification for the World Cup. Following this milestone, Quante earned a scholarship to Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, the only Canadian institution competing in the NCAA Division II, where he was the only freshman to be in the starting lineup.

Quante helped his team achieve a #1 national ranking, a Final Four appearance in the NCAA tournament, and a featured article in the New York Times. His performance earned him recognition as the NCAA Freshman of the Year runner-up, as well as a spot on the All-American Second Team, and inclusion in the tournament’s top 11 players.

Quante’s professional career continued with a six-month stint in Croatia before returning home to join Toronto FC (TFC). Although he joined TFC after the season had begun, Quante secured a starting position and contributed to an undefeated season in League 1’s inaugural year. He later played in Jamaica, where he participated in the CONCACAF Club Championship, competing against MLS and other international teams.

Coach Q is now thrilled to bring his experience and enthusiasm for the game to FC Toronto and looks forward to contributing to the club’s overall success.
