Coach Kendrick Morales

KENDRICK MORALES

GOALKEEPER COORDINATOR & COACH

Born in Toronto, Canada, with Guatemalan roots, Kendrick Morales was destined for a life in football. His very first word was "Goal!" and from a young age, Kendrick fell in love with the game while watching Real Madrid matches with his father. One of his earliest memories is Zinedine Zidane's stunning volley against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League final. Zidane and the Brazilian Ronaldo were Kendrick's greatest inspirations throughout his playing career.

At the age of 17, Kendrick played as a central attacking midfielder and winger in the Costa Rican Second Division, with current First Division side Asociación Deportiva San Carlos (A.D San Carlos). Kendrick became a goalkeeper in college and won Best Goalkeeper at the provincial and national levels (OCAA/CCAA), as well as three team MVPs at Sheridan College. He's won multiple provincial titles at the men's and youth levels.

“As a player, I loved travelling with the team and learned a lot from my previous coaches at all levels. Some things helped me and others didn’t. I played in a very particular way, so now, as a coach, I'm happy to be a unique influence on the younger generation.”

Kendrick also began his coaching career with the Sheridan College Men's program, as a goalkeeper coach and assistant.  It was a seamless transition from playing to coaching, as his passion for the game and comfort when public speaking are the perfect mix to motivate players. Currently, Kendrick trains the FC Toronto goalies in every age group, is the head coach of the 2008 squad and is one of FCT's High Performance instructors.

“Patience and an understanding that every player has a different learning style is at the core of my coaching philosophy. Every season we set goals and realistic expectations for the individual and team. Players often have different motivations, but they all require patience to grow. Watching my players improve year over year is what makes me most proud.”
