TONY DJUKIC
GIRLS PROGRAM COORDINATOR & COACH
Coach Tony Djukic was born in Croatia/Bosnia and immigrated to Canada in the early 1980s at the age of four. He began his playing days with Toronto Croatia, but stopped when he was fourteen, after going head-to-head with a car on Dundas St. West. Unfortunately, the car won.
Tony returned to various levels of recreational and competitive soccer in his early 20s. When his older sister and best friend were looking for a women’s team to join, he decided to step up and build a team for them. Within three years, Tony was coaching three adult women's teams across multiple divisions. In his six years coaching the three teams, his crowning achievement was when all three won their respective championships at the same time.
Coach Tony stepped away from coaching adults when his daughter was born. He joined Brams United Girls Soccer Club as a Board Member and transitioned to helping build better youth programs for young girls. After a two-year stint as Marketing Director for the club, Tony took over as the Director of Jr. Recreational Programs. Four-and-a-half years later, Tony stepped away from the board and returned to coaching with the Brams U8 Rep team.
Now, as a National C Licensed coach, Tony spearheads FC Toronto’s girl’s program with his 2010 team. In addition to his work as a coach, Tony is also the Vice-President of Brampton Adult Soccer, a position he’s held for 20-plus years now.
Tony’s coaching philosophy is focused on the long term when developing young players. Coaches must remain flexible, because there is no ‘correct’ way to approach any facet of soccer. Every player is different and every collection of players makes a unique team. Pinning yourself to one method of coaching does nothing but limit what a coach and the players can accomplish together.
